Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal with around 4 million inhabitants. In addition to seeing the historic and cultural sites from the comfortable and homely base of the Lighthouse (where all VCD volunteers stay whilst in Kathmandu). We also place volunteers in the rural areas around the Kathmandu valley; all of the villages are located within an hour of the centre of Kathmandu. The villages combine a developed infrastructure, with water readily available and the peace and quiet of the countryside. Most have a few shops, where you can get bottled water, stationery, local phone services and any additional treats you require. For international calls and internet access, you can go to the city at the weekend.
