Training
VCD Nepal has worked with university students, adult groups, school groups, professional organizations and individuals from all over the world to create and run custom-made programs for cultural visits, service projects, voluntary work and internship work in Nepal, developing inventive itineraries in collaboration with these groups and individuals to meet their specific needs, goals and interests.
We have over 10 years of experience working with international volunteers. Our extensive local network, experienced member and comprehensive information about all aspects of Nepal, VCD Nepal staffs are able to create extraordinary opportunities all over Nepal. Our group program is equal to other international groups working in Nepal while our fee is extremely cheap (60-80% less), as we use local manpower and resources to run our program. Upon your arrival in Nepal, VCD Nepal will provide you with the necessary training to conduct your program. This usually lasts a week. Training will be extended for long-term volunteers.
The program is divided in two parts
Phase one
In the first phase you will usually spend 3 days in a volunteer home in Kathmandu, with 3 hours of orientation and 2-3 hours sightseeing every day. The day will be broken up as follows:
- Basic Nepali Language- 2 hours in the morning
- Nepali cultural orientation- 1 hour, in the afternoon
- Sightseeing – 2-3 hours in the evening

Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu airport you will be taken to The Light House. The Light House is a VCD volunteer home in Kathmandu. At the Light House you will get a chance to meet many other volunteers and share volunteer and travel experiences.
About the light house
Having a place to call home is priceless in Kathmandu. In a city where bartering and crowds can get exhausting, the lighthouse has been a welcome home away from home. With great views, a large sundeck, and warm Nepalis to call family. A short fifteen minute walk to downtown Thamel and less than 30 minutes to the monkey temple, but it feels like a world away.
Facilities in the Light House
- single and double rooms
- storage for when you're trekking/riding elephants/rafting/exploring
- continental breakfast and traditional Nepali meals
- wi-fi
- hot water
- common room for movies, meeting other travelers, and learning about the country you're in first hand
Phase two
You will be transferred to the typical placement.
